What Is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is a process in which a woman donates eggs from a single menstrual cycle to help individuals or couples who cannot conceive naturally. The procedure is safe, does not lead to early menopause, and typically takes about 2 weeks to complete.

Is Sedation Anesthesia for Egg Retrieval Safe?

One of the most common concerns among women considering egg donation is:

“Will the egg retrieval procedure be painful? Is anesthesia safe?”

At NUWA Fertility Center, we prioritize the safety, comfort, and overall experience of every egg donor throughout the treatment process. During every egg retrieval procedure, a licensed anesthesiologist is present throughout the entire procedure to provide monitored sedation anesthesia and continuous medical supervision, helping patients remain relaxed and comfortable during treatment.

Sedation anesthesia is designed to feel similar to falling into a natural sleep. After receiving gentle guidance and explanation from the anesthesiologist, most patients fall asleep quickly, which helps minimize anxiety and discomfort during the procedure. Throughout the retrieval process, the anesthesiologist continuously monitors vital signs and physical condition to help maintain appropriate sedation levels and procedural safety.

Because egg retrieval is typically a short procedure, most patients are able to recover and return home after approximately 1–2 hours of post-anesthesia observation and rest. Follow-up care and recovery monitoring are also arranged to help ensure a smooth recovery process.

We hope that every woman who chooses to give the gift of egg donation can complete this meaningful act of kindness in a safe, supportive, and reassuring environment.
